Are there rental cars that can be covered by personal car insurance?
I was wondering this because I wanted to rent a car but was afraid that I’d have to pay for the extra cost of insurance that the car’s under. I have Mercury as an insurance and want it to use as my insurance instead of paying. Thanks… ^_^ v
If you don’t have a non-owned vehicle rider on your policy, it won’t cover a rental. You buy a policy to cover one car, not however many as you may borrow or rent.
Unless you have a basic policy, your liability may cover you, but not collision or comprehensive. Call your insurance agent to find out if you can buy what is called a vacationer’s policy, which is a short term non-owned vehicle policy, to cover a rental vehicle. As an insurance broker I sold hundreds, maybe thousands of those, I never counted.
